About Roquebrun

The village of Roquebrun is very special, not least because it has a minimum of 300 days of glorious weather each year - which is why it's know in the region as the "Le Petit Nice."

Roquebrun

Just a stones throw from our front door is the Mediterranean garden where over 400 types of cactus grow, which is only possible because of this warm climate.

Moreover, its an unspoilt part of France where real French village life still exists.

Beneath the mountain at the back of the house, you will see locals on the terraces and in the orchards attending to their fruit trees and olive groves. The ground is fertile and there's an abundance of apples, pears, peaches, pomegranates and - of course - grapes.

This is a serious wine region.

Throughout the day, you can hear the gentle sound of the stream winding its way into the river Orb, at the front of the town, which is full of trout, barbel and carp.

The river Orb plays a very important part in village life. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the clear, clean water and pebble beach to swim, fish, kayak and canoe or just to cool off after a spot of sunbathing.

There are areas nearby where you can sit and enjoy a picnic or barbecue - and with so much river side to choose from you can always find a quiet spot.

Towards the front of the village, at the base of the famous bridge, there is a small super market, a couple of bakeries selling fresh warm baguettes, a post office, a bar, a regional tourist office and (every Tuesday and Thursday) a street market offering scrumptious fresh produce.

There's an excellent supermarket, no more than 15 minutes away, that sells virtually everything.

Restaurants:

"L'Auberge St Hubert" provides great fare for the entire family and - believe it or not - makes the best Pizza I've ever tasted (and that includes all the ones eaten in Italy!).

Le Petit Nice

"Le Petit Nice" has a balcony over the river and attracts discerning diners from across the region.

This is very popular and you need to book in advance, all year round!

In neighbouring villages, you will find restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.

In keeping with every village in the region, Roquebrun has its own festivals: the Mimosa in February (celebration of the village's all-year-round sunshine and warmth) and the Bull Running Festival in July (exercise some care!).
